some really good places to get sound effects is from computer games

i did a lego animation about the maffia and had some guys getting shot so i set every thing up where i keep my play station and just turned the sound up worked perfectly any way the ball is rolling for my movie i'm scoping some potential locations checking out music and gathering costumes and mates for the acting

..another option is to create the music YOURSELF!

Anyone can do it these days... just get hold of a midi keyboard for your computer and download some free software from the internet to 'compose' the music on. Try download.com for some freeware programs/.

Sounds a little difficult but I've done it myself and came out with some great results for a film I did a while back... also gets around the copyright if you want to submit the film to festivals etc!

I use Rave eJay 1.05 and Dance eJay 2+ with extra samples. Both proggies were recently slapped onto PC Format and computer music (i.e. cost ?5). Great for knocking out a decent tune in no time, and the base drum samples make for terrific punch sfx in martial arts movies.

Just finished a short, and I had to do pretty much the sound effets and music from scratch!

I used a few different E-Jay products, as well as music 2000 to do the music (all the samples are copyright-free!), and as far as sound effects went, I bought a 4-cd sound effects set, and ripped them onto PC... It sounds like I cheated, but considering I've tweaked each and every sound effect, it's totally my own work!

I've also had to "design" new sounds - like a door being kicked in, and bumping against the wall, which I used a car engine, soundforge and some patience to do...

I'm gonna be working on my website (I.e. complete re-design) over the xmas period, so should have info up about "The Shoot", as well as some other stuff!
